HENDERSON – President Barack Obama is defending his economic policies, saying his administration has been willing to make unpopular decisions to pull the country out of a recession.
In remarks before a town hall meeting in Nevada, Obama credited his administration for acting swiftly and boldly. He says he didn't bail out the nation's banks because he felt compassion for Wall Street, but because not doing so would have endangered the savings and dreams of millions of Americans.
Obama says he is committed to getting back "every single dime" of the taxpayer money used to rescue the banks. He says Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, like Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, will ensure that happens.
