That's a nice piece of writing, and very accurate.

Yeah, and that's why so many programs are going bankrupt now.

I was being faceious about the 15% Cy. In reality it was more like a 15% tax hike.

Granted, but he did cut taxes for high earners. He made no secret about wanting to bury welfare and he did significant damage to it.

But in some fairness to Ronnie, he kind of walked into what Obama walked into, only his was the Carter mess, and those early years of his term were as bad as what we have now, except the laid off jobs were not in Mexico, or China.

When he did the 15% thing, it was 5% for three years straight, but in the process, he shredded the 1040A deduction allowables that were in place for a long time. All that was left in to deduct was home mortgage interest and property taxes, the rest were removed entirely or allowed only if your cost exceeded 2% of a certain amount. We no longer could lie about embellishing those figures on our 1040A"s, in order to get a higher refund check. bastards

Gas tax, sales tax, charitable deductions, etc. were gone.

The difference was that Reagan was a popular old white man, the status quo, coming in with a huge amount of support and was popular on both sides of the aisle. Obama has had about ten times the amount of hurdles to clear that he did.

He was a "wordsmith' with a ton of stage presence. And damn near followed Nixon back to Calif before his term expired.
