I'm gonna kill a coyote next weekend |
Very timely article, by the way. We lost all our chickens (30) last fall and are now losing one or two of our geese every night due to these lousy animals. You can hear them yapping every night. I'd welcome hunters and/or trappers to take them off our hands! The Game Commission has been no help whatsoever, other than telling us it is open season...it is always open season on them. |
amom.......you dissapoint me.....for someone who uses a "recycle, reuse" logo and seems environmentally aware, I can't believe you said that about coyotes. What we must remember is that WE HUMANS have moved into THEIR territory. When you interfere with the natural order of things it always creates problems. Deer are overpopulated because we have eliminated their natural predator (bobcats, coyotes). Do what my grandmother always did with her chickens. In the evening when they'd return to the coop to roost, she'd close up the coop so nothing could get inside. Try this. It would be better than killing the coyotes.

Amom, kill the critters before they get as thick as the deer and start attacking people, especially little kids. In the meantime keep recycling the cans, bottles, papers, and put up a windmill. |

Driver, it seems like those coyotes are experts at keeping out of harm's way. I've only seen one in the wild, and that was a good many years ago while deer hunting. I've seen more foxes than coyotes. What has your experience been? _________________

One was caught in my headlights, eating a rabbit and daring me to do something about it. Looked like a mad dog except for the foaming mouth.
You would of had to shoot it if you came across it when you were shooting those pretty deer that day. |

Actually, the one I saw came up over a rise where I was sitting under a tree, stopped dead in its tracks and hightailed it back down over the hill. I think both of us jumped three feet off the ground. I was never a serious deer hunter. I just enjoyed being out in the woods. I would, however, love to go coon hunting again. _________________

Just kidding Brant, I went deer hunting once, had the deer in my sights, but could not pull the trigger. Took the ammo out, went home and never went deer hunting again. Loved to go out and try for pheasant and grouse though. Rarely found either but me and my dog enjoyed that 3-4 hours of walking. Also found a lot of sheephead mushroom and various nut trees(hickory, butternut, and always walnuts).
He would kick up a rabbitt and I would not shoot it because I did not eat them. he would run the rabbitt around me twice and and the third time, he would look over me as he ran the rabbitt as if to say,"dammit, you gonna shoot already?"
Finally found a neighbor who would take all of what I got that day, so on the third time I did begin shooting, but only to keep the rabbitt from running my dog to death.
"]Actually, the one I saw came up over a rise where I was sitting under a tree, stopped dead in its tracks and hightailed it back down over the hill."
Me and my dog were taking a break on the hillside once and a , what had to be a bobcat, almost joined us. All 3 of us jumped in different directions.Tthat thing was as big as a fat beagle.
Another time there was some brushing, grass/bush smashing noises coming from across the gas line (about 50 feet)and 3 (had to be elk) came onto the open field. 2 male with huge racks and one female. There were every bit as big as a full grown horse and never ever saw deer here that big.
We all looked at each other and they calmly walked up the gas line hill away from us. |
