I find the first part of that piece very offensive and therefore the rest is probably hogwash too. Limbaugh and Beck may show prejudices but not the mainstream Republicans. This is so typical of the leftist attacks. I thought you were a little above that Cy. _________________

The thing has pretty much passed and pretty much will be the law is a safe assumption, whether it will be a good thing or a nightmare will take a lot of time to determine.
But, the fact is people had over a year to decide how to respond to the vote and act, It just didn't come out of the blue two days ago. More people voted for it then against, so it is done. Let the "wait and see " process begin. |

What was offensive about that? That's pretty much how I feel... being an ex-republican...
I am sure that there are sensible, level-headed conservatives out there... They are just hard to find, lately... for every one of YOU (SSSS), there are 5 Blackball's (no offense, BB... you have your role and it's useful).
For example, if I recall correctly, you could not possible give less of a chit about anything gay-related... right?
That makes you a pleasant minority within the GOP... but a minority nonetheless... _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

E- these peole are no more the spokemen for the Republicans than Jesse Jerkoff is for the Dems. But the loud and ignorant get the media coverage-that is why you are seing them right now.
Have you heard Huckabee, Romney, Rudy, Powell, etc say any of that stuff? _________________

SSSS- I would agree with you about the media coverage... but it's simply the fact that they are louder EVERYWHERE whether the media is covering them or not...
The fringe of the GOP has latched on to media in all it's forms... radio, newspaper, TV, and internet... because it is a relatively cheap and simple way to elevate their platform into the national eye.
Look through websites and blogs and forums... Hell, just look at the comments on the OR--- The overwhelming majority of voices from the right are voices from the fringe. Yes, the moderates exist, but you wouldn't know that from a cursory inspection of political leanings... if I turned the tv off completely (which, for the most part, I have... I hardly watch any broadcast or cable programming... ) and only relied on the message that people are voluntarily handing over to you, it's overwhelmingly on the side of the teabaggers and the birthers and the lunatic, neo-con, bornagain right... I could scour the internet and letters to the editor from a variety of newspapers and not come up with a handful of people lending their opinions who would be as you are on issues such as abortion and religion and social issues like that... You and I disagree on substantive policy-related issues where there very well may not be a right or a wrong... but at least you aren't railing against the health care bill on the basis that it murders babies... because guess what? Abortion is legal. If you don't want one, don't get one... that's a perfectly conservative viewpoint and I'm sure it's held by a lot of people... but those people don't speak up or make that distinction... and when they do (such as that Frum guy)--- they get purged by the base.
I also don't hear you saying you are going to belligerently go uninsured and daring the feds to try to collect the fine... Because you are a normal person who isn't going to go out of their way to be an wonderful person. I agree that there are a lot of people like you... but damned if I can find any of them... even hairy guy down the hall... who is, for the most part, a great guy and a friend of mine... is contemplating buying his first gun EVER (dude has NEVER worn blaze orange in his life) because of the obama administration... I'm like... dude... your car is a piece of crap, you are always whining about being broke... you don't hunt, you live in the most yuppy safe neighborhood in western pa... you have insurance through a company that isn't going to change their coverage and will do anything to reduce that financial burden on it's employees... Nothing that is happening politically is going to infringe on your life in any way... but you are going to put a freakin' hand gun on a credit card? Have you ever even fired a gun?
I can see him slowly sliding off into the nutjob corner of the lunatic fringe... an otherwise normal guy... a little more religious than what I'm comfortable with... but a decent guy who thinks he's going to be death paneled...
The conservative party that intrigued me in my formative years doesn't exist. There are members of it that are still around (like yourself) who probably still self-identify... but you aren't a cohesive group. Where are all the normal folks like yourself defending Lindsay Graham? He's incredibly conservative, but the fringe regards him as a turncoat liberal. If lindsay graham doesn't pass the smell test, good luck making that tent bigger. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I like to consider myself a "level-headed" conservative.....just because there happened to be an wonderful person GOP president who acted like a typical LIBCHIT idiot, doesn't mean that all Republicans think as he does.....
MY BELIEFS ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS ANY LIBCHITS' BELIEFS.....THE CONSTITUTION (SOMETHING THAT YOU LIBCHITS NO LONGER BELIEVE IN) IS IMPORTANT TO ME, AND GUARANTEES MY RIGHT TO EXPRESS MY BELIEFS.......
"E", are you telling me that only LIBCHITS are permitted to express their political, fiscal, and moral beliefs??????????????????????????????????

Unfortunately, SSSS, the ignorant are the core of the Republican Party. A brand new Harris poll finds that 45 percent of Republicans agree with the Birthers that Obama is a foreigner, and 57 percent of Republicans believe Obama is a Muslim. Nearly 40 percent of the Republicans agreed that Obama is "doing many things Hitler did." But here's the best one. One-quarter of Republicans - that's one of every four of your fellow GOPers - believes Obama "may be the antiChrist. You're got a whole lot of stupid in your party. _________________

That's why, if I still were a Republican, I would no longer identify as such. The Republican party needs to split into two so the competent ones can differentiate themselves from the crazies. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! I think most of the population are independents but register for either party in order to vote in primaries. we need to change the voting laws to eliminate primaries.
I would like to see only one election in a given year with one ballot with all canidates listed. No more straight party voting and everyone can vote for any canidate regardless of party.
As it is now in PA independents cannot vote in primaries. |
