I believe the statement "Republicans never passed a bill while in office" was made in response to the GOP's claims that they were in fact interested in fixing the problem but wanted to do it a different way. It was a, "if you wanted to fix the problem, why didn't you during the last 8 years?" response. To me, its two strikes against them that they didn't pass a bill AND they refused to even acknowledge the existence of the problem by saying they would work on it. Promising to pass a bill and not doing it is at least admitting the problem exists. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Who am I defending? I'm just calling out the GOP for their failures. They cannot claim to support health care reform and expect anyone with half a brain to believe them. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

It will pass this week-end, President Obama has postponed his trip to his birthplace until June in order to be here to celebrate the passage.
With some minor changes and giving Dennis Kucinch a ride on Air Force 1, a cowboy hat, wooden pony stick, and a pair of plastic cap guns, little Denny proudly signed away his constituents like he did when he bankrupted Cleveland when he was the mayor. Quote: |
The pot has been sweetened even more and those few who are "wavering" really are "wobbling" as they await to cash in on the last minute giveaways that will take it over the top, like the Nebraska wheeler-dealer and the Florida guy last time around.
Not going to matter, by the time it kicks in, it will be too late for sick people today and God only knows what will be here in the USA (or on Earth) in 2014.
On the other hand if the dipchits spent this much attention to restoring jobs that are outsourced and had benefits attached including health care, this would be a moot issue.

My point was-no republican ever made it a campaign promise. Your statement that making a promise and not doing it at least admits there is a problem puts EVERY political hopeful in a good light! _________________

And my point was they deserve criticism for that. And it makes them hypocrites now.

Is there something wrong with that? To fix a problem, you must first acknowledge the problem. I think every political hopeful that gets elected is in a good light; otherwise, he wouldn't get elected. Its when they reach office and fail to accomplish their goal that the casting of that light must be called into question. But I stand by what I said; I'll take the guy that says he will fix the problem and doesn't before I'll take the guy that pretends there isn't a problem. At least the first one has some connection to reality. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Cy-the fact that a republican controlled Congress did not address the issue of health care does not mean they did not acknowledge there WAS a problem. How many pieces of health care reform legislation were introduced during that period by Democrats? _________________

I'm pretty sure Dingle submits a bill at the beginning of each year... so at least 8 would have been proposed from 2000-2008 _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Kennedy did as well. To his credit, McCain often backed him. John Conyers introduced one in the House in 07. Ron Wyden proposed a similar one in the Senate the same year.
Both Bush and Kerry offered proposals during the 04 campaign. Bush's was pretty subdued and obviously never came to fruition. Kerry's was more substantial. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

You are right-I forgot about Kennedy's bill. I am not sure anyone ever took Wyden seriously _________________

Lets get real here. The congressmen who vote against healthcare reform do so because they make their living off of the drug and insurance lobbyists. If we took all of the money the dems have spent pushing for reform, and all the money the repubs have spent against it, we could probably pay for coverage for a large percentage of the uninsured. _________________
