So I have two sleeping problems. The first is that if I eat chocolate right before going to sleep, I get night terrors. These are nightmares of an unsettling nature that often result in the person waking up shouting or yelling out of fear, and are also a little more difficult than normal nightmares to separate from reality immediately after waking up.

The second is if I fall asleep on my back, I get sleep paralysis. This is where a certain kind of pressure on the back of the neck causes the sufferer to mentally wake up from sleep but physically be unable to move. It lasts anywhere from a few seconds to a couple minutes and is terrifying since you aren't totally awake so you don't really know what's wrong with you. There are also sometimes associated hallucinations that differ from traditional dreams.

Well last night, I ate a big piece of chocolate cake and fell asleep on my back about 30 minutes later. So I had a night terror AND was paralyzed in my dream and because both were happening at the same time, I couldn't wake from the nightmare to yell due to the paralysis AND when I finally did, I spent about 2 hours lying in a half awake state full of dread.

I walk and talk in my sleep and have some pretty crazy dreams. I haven't determined what causes it... but if I knew, I'd replicate it every night. Yeah, I'm tired the next day, but I have always LOVED the whole dream/sleep/awake/not quite awake thing... even if the dreams are terrifying.

There's nothing I love about the kinds of dreams I have in those states. Last night involved a set of 7 or 8 identical little kids who were just staring at me like village of the damned. Creepy as hell. Then I slowly began to become paralyzed in the dream. I thought they had poisoned me or something.

I wish my dreams were that harmless. I dream mostly about intangible fears, like that feeling of dread that any second, something indescribably bad is going to happen.
