DeWeese invokes 5th in meeting with Bonusgate judge

State Rep. Bill DeWeese, the former House Majority Leader, invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination this morning in a private meeting with the judge presiding over the corruption trial of his onetime legislative colleague Mike Veon, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter.
Lawyers for Veon had subpoenaed DeWeese as a defense witness and had planned to call him to the stand as early as this week.
But early today, before the court session started, DeWeese and his attorney William Costopoulos were seen entering the Dauphin County Courthouse just blocks from the Capitol. Sources confirmed that DeWeese took the Fifth Amendment in Judge Richard A. Lewis' chambers.
DeWeese (D., Greene) was charged separately by Attorney General Tom Corbett's office in December for allegedly using state resources for campaign purposes. But the charges do not deal specifically with the bonus allegations at the heart of the case against Veon, now in its sixth week.
Veon's attorneys, however, have painted DeWeese, who has served in the House for three decades, including a two-year stint as Speaker in the 1990s, as the man behind the cash-for-campaigning scheme.
Dan Raynak, one of Veon's attorneys, refused comment on the matter, during a morning break in the trial.
Veon, a former Beaver County legislator, and three former top aides are charged with theft and related counts for awarding $1.4 million in government bonuses to legislative aides as rewards for working on political campaigns on state time.

| ILL BET THIS HELPS HIS RE-ELECTION ....RIGHT..WE NEED A CLEAN SWEEP IN WASHINGTON GET RID OF ALL OF THEM ,CUT THE REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS AND THE SENATE IN HALF. DEWEESE HAS BEEN IN OFFICE FOR WHAT 30 YEARS AND GREENE CO STILL STINKS,THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL VOTE FOR HIM ARE THE STRAIGHT TICKET DEMOCRAPTS WHO DONT HAVE ANY BRAINS.BB |

Yeah I guess riding handcuffed in the back of a sheriff car going to Camp Hill prison would probably qualify as a trip on the tax payers expense

IT WAS FOR THE ELM STREET PROGRAM "DUMMY" I WENT AS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE MANAGER WHO WAS IN THE HOSPITAL.OUR STATE REP MADE A BIG STINK ABOUT IT HOW THE CITY KNOWING I HAS NO DRIVER LICENSE HAD ME GO ON BEHALF OF THE CITY.OFCOURSE THAT "DUMMY" DID NOT REALIZE I DID NOT GO ALONE,AND DID NOT DRIVE.BB |

Hell, I don't know... Quick story:
Jesse White is my friend on facebook (he's a state representative for those who aren't from around here)... anyway, he was talking to some kids at a local elementary school and he was talking about how he works in Harrisburg.
One little boy said that his father was going to Harrisburg.
Jesse asks why... assuming that the kid's dad is either moving there or works there or whatever...
The kid says "Because he's going to jail."
After a brief, but awkward silence, Jesse says "Oh, is he in the state legislature, too?"
So, anyway... about twenty minutes after I read that, I come on here and see you saying that you went to harrisburg for a few days on the taxpayers' dime... and well, the obvious joke was afoot.
So, why did you go to Harrisburg?
