Between 1981 and now, banks have figured out how to exploit the fine print. The best customers used to be the ones who could pay off their loan. Now, the best customers are the ones who can only knock off some interest. Banks use floating due dates, balance transfer fees, and adding all sorts of fees for late payments or not using the card once a month or whatever else they can brainstorm up to rip you off.

Don't get me wrong... I blame the consumers just as much. But the businesses need to be held responsible for offering a quality service to our society. The same way we don't accept Chinese toys with high levels of lead in the paint, we can't accept banks ripping off our neighbors.

I also don't agree with the credit card compamies (banks) tactics. I don't think its right to raise interest on existing balances. That money was borrowed at a fixed rate and should be paid off at that rate. At the same time I believe that the minimum payment never should have been set so low. It should have been 50% of the balance each month and credit limits should be based on income. If used correctly a credit card is ok. The full balance should be paid each month, that way you don't care what the interest is because you never pay any. A credit card is a conveince, not a floating loan. They can be worse that a payday loan store.

WASHINGTON – At last, the unemployment crisis seems to be easing. That's the good news.

The bad news? Job creation remains scant because companies still lack enough confidence in the economy to ramp up hiring.

The U.S. jobless rate held steady at 9.7 percent in February. And employers cut 36,000 jobs — fewer than predicted. Those figures signaled that the job market is slowly healing.

Ah so sweet, The personification of BULLCHIT PROSE or How Wall Street DUMBS DOWN dumb America or Walking To A Bread Line Is Better then Running to One.

Does fewer than predictedmean the predictions will continue to be on the negative side every month? How many months will those now working have left before they are on the "employers cut "list for that month?

CY get that "voodoo" math calulator out.

Another bit of good news in their report - the rate of long term unemployment has started to decrease a bit, and the overall percentage of adult Americans working is slightly higher than it was last month.

Amps, losing 36,000 more jobs is not "good news", ask any of those 36,000 people( oh beans, just ask yourself as you recently lost yours, but found another job, as I recall you posting).

That would be why i referred to it as "a bit of good news". i'm quite aware of what it means to be unemployed (and without health insurance) as you point out. Of course it's not good news that 36,000 jobs were cut last month. But it's better news than the 700K+ jobs we lost in February 2009. And surely you're not saying that it's bad news that the rate of long term unemployment declined or that it's bad that a higher percentage of adults (like me) are working now than were working last month?
