No joke, I'm very concerned about a war with Iran. Toppling the Taliban in Afghanistan was a necessary evil, if only for national pride. We should have left then, or established large bases there, capable of delivering fire on Tehran. Iraq was not our enemy, and there was not a shred of intelligence that they had WMD. But it was certain that Iran was working on nukes. Bush, Cheney and Powell were manipulated by Chalabi and other Iraqi exiles. (Meanwhile, Israel quietly takes out a nuclear weapons site in Syria.) And Iran continues processing uranium, and treating the IAEA like an ugly substitute teacher. There are enough dissidents in Iran to provide good intel on centrifuge locations. Eventually, these underground bunkers must be destroyed, and only America has the tools to do it, to at least protect Israel, but we will ask for some conciliation's...
So if you see on the news that Netanyahu (Israel) is signing any kind of peace accord with Abbas (Fatah, west bank) or even worse, Haniya (Hamas, Gaza Strip) then get ready to hear about quakes in Qom...
P.S. Chalabi works for Iran

If we go to war with Iran, we will win...but the cost in both money and human life will be tragic and staggering.

It depends Cy-if they unleash the dogs and actually let us win it probably would not last too long. However, if we fight it worrying about the political fallout *(as usual) it will be a long and costly war.

I would think Iran would be too scary to hold back on. But I am also wondering if they wouldn't have nukes before we could stop them...and I don't think they would hesitate to use them.

Cy, I neglected the worst part...China and Russia just love watching USA engaged in a war that drains our resources to the breaking point. That's why they won't even support sanctions against Iran that would help their own economies. They are slime-balls. But we can't afford a 3 front war in the middle east without allies. Especially not now...As far as I know, Tehran doesn't have fissile material yet, not weapon's grade, but their excuse for enriching uranium for a nuclear power plant is an embarrassing, bald-faced lie....I imagine we will use Israel as proxy in this fight, and lend them the needed equipment

China is far too dependent on us economically to watch us go through the ringer. We are the only nation left that buys their crap...everyone else has stringent quality requirements on their imports. You might be surprised by China if we asked for support from them.

China sure has a funny way of supporting us. While Iran plays us and the rest of the world like suckers, China blocks any attempt to do something about it:

China could block sanctions against Iran
By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, February 5, 2010; A07

China on Thursday threw a roadblock in the path of a U.S.-led push for sanctions against Iran, saying that it is important to continue negotiations as long as Iran appears willing to consider a deal to give up some of its enriched uranium.

"To talk about sanctions at the moment will complicate the situation and might stand in the way of finding a diplomatic solution," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said at a conference in Paris.

After months of spurning the proposed deal, which would provide Iran with fuel for a medical reactor, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad showed a suddenly renewed interest in it this week just as France, a strong advocate of sanctions, assumed the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council. French Prime Minister François Fillon said Wednesday that he would ask the United Nations to adopt a resolution imposing "strong sanctions" against Iran because of its nuclear program.

U.S. officials had initially hoped they could push through a U.N. sanctions resolution this month or next, but China's statement Thursday suggests that it may take months of haggling to achieve that goal. That, in turn, would upend the delicate diplomatic process needed to fulfill the Obama administration's wish to see "crippling sanctions" in place early this year.

No, China doesn't want us bankrupt, just weakened -- a client state....They have re-buffed every overture we've ever made to them for human rights, nuclear security, religious freedom or product safety...Their government cares about nothing but power and profit. They will polish their own image like a used car salesman reeking of cheap cologne -- but they will not help us in a moral quest, not for free

They will do what benefits them the most. Right now, there is no benefit in supporting us. If we go to war, there would be a benefit in supporting us.

Pardon me if I'm reluctant to count on the support of a murderous, repressive regime in our time of need.
