...worth of my writing. Computer crashed from a virus, and the only place I've been on here is this forum, the Meadows website, and e-mails from my mom's computer at the sheriff's office in California....(Amazed I was able to get Mozilla Firefox running tonight, without my daughter's help..)
Just thought the info might be relevant to some of you...
(And don't bother yelling at me Cy, I know I shoulda backed that stuff up on slipped discs or something...) _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

I assume your mom is at the sheriff's office by choice. I'm not a good backer-upper either. Hope you can retrieve your files. _________________

Free, I think I may have a suspect who seems to be able to decipher personal info about innocent folks like you and I and others with a very broad knowledge of all there is to know in the world.
I have suspicious feelings that this one eyed individual is a mole and was inserted on this forum by various agencies of the several governments working independent of each other , in other words a double mole.
He works (I suspect) with a shill proportedly from the serene, scenic, metropolis of Westland, Pa., whose assignment is to create havoc on this board to draw out the bards of the board and together crash their pc's and to discourage anyone from poeming. It is their version of "poetic justice". bastards

I'm assuming that's me.
Anyway, Free, don't toss that machine out yet. When you get a new one, you have a pretty good chance of getting most of your stuff off the old hard drive. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Hell, Cy...I ain't worried about it...Not like it was the Library of Alexandria or anything...Easy come, easy go. And i can always write more..It's not my computer, anyway, so I never really owned the junk...Just thought if there was something going around, you all should be warned

How old was this computer? Viruses that crash your computer don't really exist anymore. Virus writers stopped making those long ago in favor of malware that runs in the background and steals your personal info. Crashing someone's computer was fun when you were in middle school, but it makes it hard for a virus to spread and doesn't really earn you any long term satisfaction. It makes much more sense to write a virus that is relatively hard to detect and doesn't crash your computer (meaning it stays awake and spreads it), and also earns you some $$$.
My guess is that your computer is old and succumbed to some form of hardware failure. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Cy, it's my daughter's old computer, so you're probably correct...Bought it for her when she went to Bethany in '04...Paid for it with my VISA card numbered 5596 8521 8889 8796
Yes, I'm joking... The nice part about being poor...is you have nothing that can be stolen...
"Freedom's just another word, for nothin' left to lose..."
and vice versa The lost files were all written for her. She'll recapture them if she wants to....She's very intelligent _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

Let me know if you need recommendations on methods. I've done some file recovery in my time. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Free--I thought that this thread was going to be about how your make-over makes you look 20yrs younger! My old computer crashed a few months ago. We lost all of our pictures! It sucks!

Bus, I don't know what happened... I was working on my resume when the screen went black except for a flashing space-bar on the upper left... It said to restore windows something ( i think xp ) press f10...I followed the instructions on the screen, and when it came back on, nothing of mine was left...it was like a brand new computer...All my daughter's photographs, and poems I had written for them -- I can't find....I clicked on an internet explorer icon, then typed in Mozilla Firefox and followed the instructions to get back here....
Truth is, it was most likely my own stupidity that caused this, and not a "virus"
Don't worry...My little girl is smarter than me, and when she gets home in a week or two, she'll fix it _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

Sounds like you hit "System Recovery", which if you did, you erased everything . But, it should have asked you if that is what you want to do, if you say yes, it then asks you to hit "Next" etc .If your pc has no installation/reinstallation kit on the hard drive you should have got one with the pc.
It reinstalls all of the programs that came with it, you must do E-mail, internet etc. Just like you did when you bought it.
You guys with XP, F-10 is "System Recovery" right.? |

As far as I know, there is no single hotkey for windows restore. Even if he restored windows, his personal files should still be there. He would only have lost them if he did a full restore, which would have taken several hours. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact!
