One of my favorites was when a Priest in a little poor church needed the roof repaired in the worst way. A race track tout attended mass there and asked the priest how much it would cost. I can't remeber the exact numbers but I think it was 10, 000$ and the church only had 2,000.
He told the priest he had a sure winner in a race and if the priest gave him the money, he would win enough to fix the roof.

Well the priest knew gambling was wrong etc. and stewed about it but finally gave him the money the day of the race. Then he felt bad about it again and he and the bishop prayed the horse would not win.

The tout came back after the race and told the priest the horse did not win. He said the horse was ahead near the last pole and for some reason began to lose the lead( priest and bishop praying for it not to win).

The priest said it was ok the horse lost and our money is gone. The tout said , Oh, no Father, I would never put that kind of money on a horse to win, I bet him to finish second. Here is your 20,000 dollars.

That reminded me of another good one. This guy invents a time machine with the intent of going back and changing the course of history for the better. First, he goes back to the Lusitania and tries to warn them they will be sunk, but they won't listen. The ship is sunk just as he leaves. Then he tries to go to Berlin just prior to WW2 and assassinate Hitler before he comes to power, but he is constantly prevented by unseen circumstances. Finally, he goes to Hiroshima just prior to the bomb being dropped and tries to convince the mayor of the city to evacuate, but the mayor doesn't believe him. After all his failures, he gives up and instead decides to go further back to a simpler time to live out his days.

He goes back to the 1800's to a nice town to live. After getting to know the people and making friends, he comes to realize he knows the town; it is a famous town that burnt to the ground when a horse drawn carriage with a lantern crashed into a building. He tells himself he should not bother to try to interfere because it only results in failure. However, on the night of the fire, he finds himself next to the carriage. He sees the lantern, and after some hesitation asks the the man who owns it to simply remove the lantern. The man refuses, thinking it silly, and the protagonist reaches for the lantern himself to remove it, but he spooks the horse, causing it to pull the carriage and crash it; in trying to prevent the disaster, he was the cause of it.

There's another good one like that, Cy, in which a guy (played by the actor who was the professor in "Gilligan's Island") goes back in time and tries to prevent Lincoln's assassination.

Does anyone remember an old episode of Twilight Zone where a guy and his coon dog get killed, watch their own funeral taking place, then wander down the road, searching for a place to stay...
One side of the road has carnival rides and flashing lights, but the barker says dogs are not allowed inside...
So the old man politely refuses to enter, and walks on down the road with his dog...
The second gate is quiet and unassuming, but the gatekeeper says dogs are welcome, and they enter...

The first place was Hell, the second was Heaven

That's probably the only episode I do remember.

CRABBY OLD MAN
When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte , Nebraska , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value .

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem . Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital .

One nurse took her copy to Missouri . The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas
edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across
the Internet.

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . What do you see?
What are you thinking .... . . . when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man, . ... . not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food . . .. . . . . and makes no reply .
When you say in a loud voice .. . . . .. 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . the things that you do .
And forever is losing . . . . .. ... . . . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . .. . . .. . . . lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . you're not looking at me .

I'll tell you who I am . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten .. . . . . . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . ... .... . . . who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . . .. .. . . a lover he'll meet..
A groom soon at Twenty . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . . that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . .. . . . .. My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . . . With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons .. . have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me .. . . . . . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . . . ... My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . my wife is now dead.
I look at the future .... .. . . . . . . . . shudder with dread..
For my young are all rearing . . . . . .. young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . and the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. . . and nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . .... . . grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . . . . . . . where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass . . a young guy still dwells,
And now and again . . . .. . . . my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . .. . . . . . life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . . . . . gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . . . . open and see.
Not a crabby old man. Look closer . . . . see ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul
within . . . .. we will all, one day, be there, too!

PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM
The best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart.

God Bless All who read this Poem

I started to write you yesterday that I did not write this, but I have one that is similiar in my plastic storage tub (my file cabinet) in the garage closet.

It is about the homeless/poor who roam the city streets after dark.
