Quote: | Today is Feb. 2, more commonly known as Groundhog Day. It has long been my husband’s favorite holiday for its near-complete lack of commercialization. There is no card to buy, no present to choose, and no cuckolding from the wife if forgotten. |
Some background... "Cuckolding" is derived from the name of the Cuckoo bird, which lays its eggs in other birds' nests and the offspring are raised by the unwitting surrogates. In the middle ages and renaissance, this was EVERYBODY's favorite joke: the "cuckolded" husband... a husband that is raising someone else's children because his wife was getting some on the side. This joke is in everything from about 1300 through the 18th century... and even after that it still pops up occasionally. It is present in everything from Chaucer to Moliere to Shakespeare...
So anyway, I feel bad for Laura Zoeller's husband... if he forgets to get her an easter card, she'll make a baby-daddy out of the neighbor feller
Probably not, but that's how I read it _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but hey, it was a good story. _________________ -amom

Good story indeed. This might be one of the few holidays that isn't commercialized, yet has the substance to, maybe, sell out.
This weekend I'll be celebrating the Celtic holiday of Imbolc. Its a tradition of welcoming in the spring. My bro inlaw started having a party where we get together and people write poetry or songs as the tradition says... or as I see it, an excuse to get really drunk. _________________

Lol, I'm gonna drink a lot of mead and sing my drinking song. The chicken is in the coupe until the baby comes. _________________

BAIL EM OUT?"
Hell, back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country, our banking system, our auto industry and possibly our health plans to the same nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling whiskey!" |

Pap, that's what I told the missus last night. Believe it or not, five weeks until spring. Maybe then my driveway will finally be clear. Or not. _________________
