If you would have any, our son will get on a plane for Virgina to a treatment center called Mount Regis to help him find his way without using any chemicals to hide from life's unknowns. He's 21 and its been a sad time for him--and us.But he wants help and we pray he will find what he needs to be happy and sucessful. We love him to death-and he's a great kid--just lost. What would you say to someone you dont really know who needs words of encouragement to use while on the plane and sitting for 2 hours waiting for a connecting flight?

There was a time when I knew your name...I would use it here to just say thanks man.Ive always respected your thoughts. |

My favorite encouraging thought:
"I am not afraid of tomorrow,
for I have seen yesterday,
and I love today."
Simple, yes, but can easily become a mantra to get your son through his treatment. I really hope this works out for him... and for his family. Hang in there. _________________ -amom

Just tell him you love him, believe in him and are proud of him. _________________

There is a sadness that cannot be spoken, and sorrows that will not be shared....
Spoken words fail at this altitude of pain -- there is no oxygen left for speech...
----
Doctors call it "Depression" as if it's an abnormal disease...
Yet, I submit to you, Spike, that an actively functioning mind, should normally feel lost, alone, and depressed...
---
Tell your son he is not alone in his intelligent recognition of the lost absurdity of life -- many of us feel the same -- and remind him that creative alternatives to chemical numbness still remain...
----
I will pray for his safe-keeping _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

Thank you, Spike...And this may seem sort of circular, but sharing words of encouragement with others, is one creative way to battle depression _________________ where-ever you get it - there you have it. - Anon. |

We recognize from our own lives that humans make mistakes, sometimes huge ones, and all of us, at one time or another, needed encouragement to pick ourselves up and try again. _________________

Spike been through what you are going through, and know how difficult it is. Once you got him in treatment it was probably such a relief to you and your family, that the hope for a new future hasn't sunk in. Remember that you raised the boy and when he begins his recovery in earnest, the part of you that raised him and gave him his moral fiber will kick in. I wish you and him nothing but peace and acceptance. It is a long road and if there are stumbles along the way, just remember he fell quite a few times learning to walk and may fall a few times on his way to sobriety but he'll get there someday. |
