To say Pitt has been exceeding expectations this season, would be an enormous understatement. At the beginning of each year, Big East Conference coaches put rankings together. At the beginning of this season, these preseason rankings had Pitt ranked 9th in the conference. As of this week, Pitt is 9th alright.... 9th in the nation!

I could go on about Jamie Dixon and his interchangable parts that he calls a basketball team. The truth is, this Pitt team lost Blair, Young, Feilds, and Biggs from last years team. They have been replaced with no-name recruits and bench players. Ok, they're not all no-names. Dixon recruited Pitt's first McDonalds All American, Donte Taylor, since 1987.

What I love about Pitt hoops is that Dixon recruits college kids. Sure, Blair played two seasons and left for the NBA. But its not like that was expected. Your Carolinas and Kentuckys get players who they know will be leaving in two years. Dixon gets players who are willing to learn, and makes them better players, and better people.

Go Pitt.

They sure have. I figured I better get this post up before Georgetown tonight. The Hoyas create some matchup problems for Pitt. Then again, I think that every game. Still, I'm not optimistic about tonight.

You and me both, I expected them to get clobbered in all these past games and they don't. And that starts the day off good.

All the optimism in the world couldn't have stopped Wright last night. Thats the worst I've seen Pitt's defense look in a decade.

Going to have to check a lot closer on the Pens. How many games left, how far back can they fall to not be in the play-offs etc.

May have to fire the coach like we did last year in order to win the the cup again. Not to be mean or anything, but coaches come and go, cups are only here for that season, and there is only one cup. Don't want to screw around like that woman in Mass., wait too long and lose all chances.

Wrong thread... but yeah. 0/4 on the PP and 0/2 on the PK killed us. Ovechkin had too much space, and he let a few rip past everyone. I think some changes on the defense are necessary. Pens really miss Scuderi and Gill... both what you refer to as solid "defensive defensemen".

Pitt in Mo'town tonight against #6 WVU. I've been to several games at the WVU Coliseum and its truly "anything goes". Students sitting in the upper sections would make paper airplanes and sail them over the court to the otherside. Heck, I've passed blunts around during an Outkast concert at the venue. Its a crazy place at one of the best party schools in the country. They even made national headlines:

Quote:
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The profanity flying out of the West Virginia student section was so loud it could be heard on national television, prompting a university official to warn students to tone down their language at basketball games.

They obliged a week later -- technically -- during a game against Louisville. But on 10 separate occasions students chanted the name of a woman that Cardinals coach Rick Pitino admitted having sex with outside his marriage.

I was scrolling through the tv menu to see what else was on. I had definitely conceded the win to WVU. That was freakin insane. Then in the first OT, I thought Pitt had it wrapped up before Bryant hit that 3 to send it the double OT. What a crazy game!

Amazing Pittsburgh sports night last night. The Pens were down 4-2 going into the third period and came back to win in OT. They held the Rangers to one shot the entire third period and zero shots in OT.

Then I switched over to ESPN2 to watch the second half of Providence @ Pitt. The game was tied 70-70 when Pitt guard, Brad Wannamaker, missed a runner from about eight feet. A forward for Providence grabbed the rebound and a touch foul was called against Pitt with 3.5 seconds left... sending Providence to the line. All he had to do is hit one shot to take the lead. Clank! went the first free throw. The second goes thru the net to make it 71-70... still, with 3.5 seconds. Pitt inbounds to Ashton Gibbs who flies across half court and lets a jumper go from about 30-35 feet. SWISH! Pitt wins 73-71!

Yeah, they probably should've beat them by ten or more. But a dub is a dub.

No... eight or possibly nine teams will make it out of the Big East. Pitt will obviously be one of them. They are just out of the Big East tournament. The seedings for the NCAA tournament will be announced tomorrow (Sunday). The loss to Notre Dame probably bumps them down to a five a seed instead of a two or three seed had they won a game or two in the Big East.
