I thought it'd be interesting to find out why we chose our usernames or what our usernames mean...

Brant--no need for you to explain! Wink

I'm guessing mine is a no-brainer. Wink

(Actually, it was a play on Cy's old, old username which was "anon")

And yours, Ondi?

LOL@ SSSS!

Amom--that's cute! Laughing My mom's name was Ondina (her nickname was Ondi) and she was very opinionated. My family jokingly calls me "Ondinita" (little Ondina) bc they say I'm just like her. I figured that'd be a great username for me here since I knew I'd be sharing my opinions...a lot! Wink And of course "libchit" is in honor of Phony. That's what he called me when I met him on Facebook! Laughing

Mine came from The Freethinker Society, out of 1880's England, managed by a guy named Foote...He championed labor rights, women's rights, and civil rights, and he was once thrown in jail for
printing a blasphemous cartoon....
He also wrote.....

" * Who burnt heretics? Who roasted or drowned millions of 'witches'? Who built dungeons and filled them? Who brought forth cries of agony from honest men and women that rang to the tingling stars? Who burnt Bruno? Who spat filth over the graves of Paine and Voltaire? The answer is one word -CHRISTIANS. * "
---
....and i got a feeling I haven't heard the end of this....

Freethinker- I absolutely love it! It suits you! Wink And I agree...You have not heard the end of this! Laughing

Trivia (or me sharing useless knowledge):

Ondina (Ondine) means "spirit of the waters". They are mermaid-like mythological figures...

This is what they look like:

Gee, thanks, and I would have been glad to share the story about how my mother named me after finding me in a basket amongst some reeds in the Nile. Dammit.

Mine is my old user name from all the way back in 2002 when my friends in college got me to start playing counter-strike with them. One of the more common trends at the time was to come up with bizarre spellings of common words for your username. I decided to be Silencer, and then mangled the spelling as badly as I could. I started using it for other stuff and it ended up being my screen name virtually everywhere...except CS where I play as Bass Wolf now. That's another story.

A hundred years ago, on observer-reporter.com, they would post a daily poll... It had an open comment form (no "submitting" comments---- real time)... And we'd all argue and rant anonymously on there. It was the most ghetto form of communication EVAR. Everyone has their own rhetorical style and that was even more true then. This venue is more of a fluid conversation whereas the poll comments seemed to foster a bit more stylistic flair Smile

Anyway... I wanted my supreme excellence and awesomeness to be attributed to me, so I randomly picked "ellipses" because I am lazy when it comes to punctuation on the interwebz... It was spur of the moment... prior to that, my online moniker of preference was "argylekilla"--- which I still use as one of my personal email accounts (argylekilla@hotmail.com)

Anyway, the whole persona thing... I kinda tried to invent "ellipses" as someone really over the top... kinda like a stephen colbert... hence the email address "thegreatellipses@gmail.com"--- it's all a self-perpetuating lie Smile
