We've known this for a couple days now, and nobody has posted it... But I am really excited about table games coming to Pa. Slots couldn't interest me any less. Putting money in a machine and pulling a lever... YAWN. Counting cards, calling bluffs, using your brain,... STIMULATING!

I haven't been to a casino in Pa yet. This new bill will get my butt in a seat sometime in the near future.

I've heard that (maybe from you?). I don't know how much longer Rivers will be around. Everyone just goes to the Meadowlands to avoid traffic, parking, walking, scary city people and sports fans, and just dealing with the city in general.

I've also heard that the bowling alley at the Meadows is a lot of fun.

Oh, I meant to post the link:

It was pretty busy when I was there and that was Xmas Eve.

PG says it was their 2nd best week since they opened, but think dick will be right about how much longer they will be there.

Meh, they said it was a good week too but they also said that Xmas eve was their slowest night in a long time, and they weren't hurting for customers. There's a large number of people in parts north of the city who don't feel like taking the extra 45 minutes to get to Meadows when they want to gamble. Rivers may not equal Meadows' success, but its not as if there are 30 other casinos to choose from. I think they will do pretty well.

True, but from I can tell, the core of the patrons are seniors, old folks, what ever, and just getting to that place is a trip in itself.

Hard enough for those who know the city to get there, add seniors who have diminishing driving skills as is, and the Meadows looks better and better.

Its actually incredibly easy to get to. Its just whether or not you can park once you get there that's the problem.

I think you know the area, for those of us who don't, ''''' not so much all that easy, once inside the garage, there was tons of spaces to park.

We went once, all in all, decided there is no reason to want to go back when the other three near by are easier to visit and less nerve racking.

This is the major issue. 90% of the people who live outside of Allegheny County are scared of Pittsburgh. The traffic, the (COUGH, black) people, the crime, the tall buildings,... everything. When you tell someone you're driving into Pittsburgh, a common reaction through their toothless mouth is " Shocked You're goin to the big city?"

Well, I can't help people with that. I've been to New York, Philly, lived in the District for years, Boston for a year, Baltimore and Annapolis several times, Rome, Paris, London, and Istanbul. If you are afraid of Pittsburgh, you must be pretty fragile.

Dick, you're correct. And that benefits the Meadows. But it's not just inbreds and the elderly who feel that way. I feel that way. Let's say there are two very similar venues that I'm interested in going to. One is in downtown Pittsburgh (or near downtown), and the other is out in Robinson or some other place that would require me driving an extra 20 or 30 minutes. I'm going to make the longer drive, especially if parking, etc., are easier. And Cy, I think you're minimizing the problems of the Pittsburgh casino. The politicians put it in the wrong location to begin with. It was probably the worst of the three proposals. And now they're bearing the fruits of that bad decision. There are some analysts who wouldn't be surprised if the owners of the casino file for bankruptcy this year.
