Just wanted to share this little blessing of good will and cheer to those who don't Believe, but are forced to participate in the celebration of the birth of Jesus...Please endure the meaningless festivities and try to survive the family traditions that honor His virgin birth...it will be over soon....
----
You are not a hypocrite, you are just playing along...and I'm sure you will forgive yourself as soon as it's finished. And don't feel guilty if you somehow manage to contribute to a child's belief in Santa...By doing so, you entertain their best nature, and provide incentives for continuing kindnesses...
----
And if you yourself are good, one day ahead, the above analogy will become your personal gift, and your obligation
----
and to all, a "good night"

My mother in law, who is a devout Christian, taught her children that Santa wasn't real from the start. Her logic was that if they grew up and learned he was fake later in life, they might draw the same analogy to god.

It didn't work by the way; both my wife and her brother are atheists now.

a belated Happy Chanukah and a much belated Jolly Eid to you my friend. I hope your decorated tree is sufficient for celebration of the winter solstice.

Thank you, friend...
and yes, my glorification of Nimrod is carefully placed -- away from the candles of Isis

Believing in the magic of Christmas never hurt anyone and I like to think that is a bit of Santa in each of us. More importantly I see absolutely nothing wrong with instilling a bit of that goodness in the hearts and minds of our kids or for them to pass it down in the same way when it becomes their turn.

Merry Christmas!

Hello Professor, I don’t believe we’ve met…
(And you may have missed the lively debate about the virgin mary pancake ) I’m at war with those atheists who attempt to use science and logic to defend and spread their lack of belief. What I have seen from them is the same unyielding attitudes and moral
superiority that I see in rabid Muslims and fundamentalist Christians..
(And yes, I wear a cross, under my shirt, where no-one can see it…)
I compare atheism and agnosticism to being a political Independent who never votes…
----
Okay, we all know it’s all fairy tales, but they are fairy tales that have sustained and mproved millions of souls for thousands of years…And I agree that, in the wrong hands, religious principles can become a cult capable of massive destruction…But so can science..
A-Bomb…..anyone?
-----
I maintain my position that everyone must make a choice of what their own personal religion will be, and I personally could care less what an individual chooses --- Zeus, Christ, Buddha Festivus Pole or the Whale God….Pick your favorite fairy tale, then teach it to your children.
Picking atheism is easy, because it requires no sacrifice of pride, and appears to elevate the chooser above the rest of us fools

Not I. On December 26th, anyone still singing carols or flashing lights is a crazy person. Time to let it go, people.

We took a ride this evening to look at Christmas decorations. Bunch of Scrooges out there! Not I. Decorations stay up until at least Orthodox Christmas. We enjoy each and every one of the 12 days. Very Happy

Only 2 more days to Epiphany (and the end of Christmastide for Episcopalians.) Today was our annual Children's Epiphany Pageant, followed by king cake and champagne in the parish hall. Now THAT's what i call church, lol!

Happy New Year, Amphy!!!

As you probably know, in Latin America the Three Kings are bigger than Santa. So the day of the Epiphany, January 6th, was my favorite day of the year when I was a child!
