When should Washington County proceed with its property reassessment? For the latest details: http://www.observer-reporter.com/or/localnews/12-15-2009-county-reassessment

I think it is wrong, absolutely wrong, that the two school districts filed a lawsuit to have the reassessment done now. If there is pending state legislation, it is prudent to wait to see how and if it will affect the counties' plans (not just Washington, but all Pennsylvania counties). I do feel the assessment is needed since I've seen inequities in home values as it now stands. However, from a selfish standpoint, I'm happy with my assessment and don't want to see it change. Wink

Amom, just about all the branches of Gov. are in dire need of cash, mostly to pay pensions and benefits( which their predecessors freely awarded themselves when the going was good and they feasted like drunks on dope).

Pittsburgh wants to tax churches, colleges, and students, sell off parking at the airport, in town etc.
Washington wants to increase parking meters and fees, ( like severing off their head which is barely being held by a few muscles now) and do a re-assessment now.
The State wants to sell the turnpike(or did they) and make Federally Funded and built inter-states toll roads.
Just about every county, town and township is broke and all of the above have NO means of aquiring cash except from property owners in the form of a higher a re-assessment value( whether a real value or not because it must meet the budgets of the taxing area) and taxes on the property owners.

Seems that a new type of governing will be replacing what was formerly known as a "democracy". More like a "fuedal system", All of your wealth must go to those working in Government in order they maintain the lifestyle they awarded themselves. Laughing Laughing Laughing

The Common People

Not everyone could be a lord or a vassal though. The bottom rung of society was made up of peasants. This was the largest class of people and they did most of the work. The peasants farmed the lord's land in exchange for protection from the lord in times of war, a small strip of land that they could farm for themselves, and a house to live in. Some peasants were freemen and could move from place to place if they did not like their master. Most peasants though were serfs. Serfs belonged to the land and could not move off of it. They also could not be removed from it by their lord.
