Have the Steelers played themselves out of playoff contention?

No, I think they will manage the 6th seed.

They played better than I anticipated last night. I think they'll pull it out, too.

Their closing schedule isn't all that difficult. The game here against Baltimore looks like the key.

Exactly. It helps that Miami, Houston, and Jacksonville also lost yesterday.

They do not look much like a playoff team right now. I mean there is a kicking game in playoffs too!

Well, I don't expect they will win more than one game this post season as they currently are, but there's nothing really standing in their way of getting there at this point.

Put the best offensive player and the best defensive player on the sidelines of any team, and watch them struggle. Especially if that offensive player is a QB, and the defensive player is... well, Polamalu is one of a kind. But you know what I am saying.

Troy's influence is felt even when he isn't supposed to be out there; the offense gains confidence knowing he can bail them out if they can't close the drive and the kicking unit feels extra pressure to secure good field position knowing he's not going to come out and eliminate 33% of the field. He is out there on every single play mentally if not physically. His role on the team is immense. I can tell you one thing, that late 4th quarter 60 some odd yard pass would not have come close to happening if he was out there.

Especially not Flacco. Remember this TAINT (touchdown after interception) in the AFC Championship game last year.

Yeah, and its not that Flacco is terrible either; Balti's receiving corps isn't exactly top notch. The whole passing offense is only barely above par imo, but the Steeler's secondary was impotent.

Writer Bill Simmons coined the term TAINT because of the double meaning. Or at least one of his emailers did. Its not an offical football stat or anything. Definitely meant to be funny.

Ray Rice, RB, leads the team in receptions with 61. Second is Derek Mason with 52. Rice is friggin amazing. I try so hard to hate him because he's a Raven, but there is definitely a respect thing goin on there.
