Do you think police overuse Tasers?

I think Tasers might be overused because they're the new tool. But police are between a rock and a hard place. They get accused of misusing Tasers, but if they used physical force to subdue a suspect, they'd be accused of police brutality. If the alternative is beating somebody down with a nightstick, maybe the Taser isn't so bad, after all. _________________

The other alternative is pulling their service revolver and shooting the suspect with a slug. Tasers are meant to be used instead of beating them with a nightstick or filling them with lead. It makes headlines when Tasers are used and something interesting happens, but I don't think they are overused. _________________ -amom

As I was reading the article I was thinking.... what ever happened to a good old fashioned fist to the face or the butt of a knight stick to the gut?
Tasers, which are supposed to be non-lethal, make the news once a month for killing or nearly killing someone. Whether police tase someone on drugs, with a pace maker or heart condition, or just over use the device, its obvious they are more lethal than a billy club. Sure, tasers don't leave any visual marks, but 50,000 volts has tremendous effects internally. Blood clots, bones mend, and cuts heal. But as Brant said, those wounds are visual evidence used as evidence of police brutality. With tasers, the brutality goes undetected... unless you're dead.
Or I could've just said YES, they're overused. _________________

I still don't understand why tranquilizer guns aren't considered. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

I have absolute faith in the honest integrity, peaceful disposition, and civic devotion of any man who happens to wear a badge and carry a gun. They are moral heroes, without common human prejudice, and they are immune to panic and mistake...

I've been waiting all morning for BB's response. Double B, I always enjoy what you have to say about piggies. This might be your most insightful post of all time. 2 outta 3 questions were really good. _________________

I HAVE TO DISAGREE ALL 3 ARE GREAT QUESTIONS.everyone knows a human bite is very dangerous to be bitten several times and not be checked one has to think in their 3 day investigation someone should have went to the hospital to atleast make the several bites look real. why not report who the cops were?would some of the citizens say why im i not surprised!!!BB |

You're right. I can understand that the officers names are being withheld though. I'm sure there will be some kind of investigation. Still, its a good question. _________________

free-you hit right on the mark. Today's police officer is expected to whip two guys half his age and twice his size without leaving a mark and without being "brutal".
BB-I knew you would have something stupid to chime in with-but you put too much faith in the news report. It did not say the officer did not get treated. But usually the officer would seek medical attention for his prisoner first, then complete a mountain of paperwork, then travel across the county for arraignment, then to the jail, and THEN maybe stop by the hospital to get the bite checked. _________________
