Should Chartiers Township raise taxes to aid its fire department?

Without reading the link, I'm gonna say yes. Fire Depts are essential for a community. Then again, if they shut it down, maybe a volunteer force will emerge. VFDs are some of the most dedicated people in a community.

Basically agree. If the taxes are vital, then they should be raised.

I'd be interested to know what this would cost the average township taxpayer. If it's not an unreasonable amount, considering current economic troubles, I'd say they should approve it.

I think Cecil did this a few years ago-and I think it was three mils-one for each of the townships departments. But I have no idea how much money one mill generates in Chartiers or Cecil.

Then the taxes are vital. I guess you could put it to a vote; would you like to pay more taxes or have to worry about getting yourself to the ER in an emergency? When I lived in Virginia last, our local rescue squad was all volunteer. They were highly valued in the community because of this; being all volunteer there meant that the service was essentially free and no one had to worry about getting their insurance to cover a trip to the hospital. Of course, that also meant your fair share of ambulance joy riders, but for the most part I was impressed by how much it was NOT abused.

Yes, raise taxes to support the VFD. Bingo attendance isn't what it used to be (I'm assuming this is an issue), but emergencies still occur.

I think it's funny that people wouldn't come to bingo if they couldn't smoke. I've been smoking for 35 years, but I can go to the movies, a concert or even a tavern without jonesing for a cig. If I'm in a no-smoking bar and I want a cigarette, I step outside for five minutes. These people are ridiculous.

Do you guys both stick to cigarettes or do you ever smoke other things (as in pipe tobacco, shisha, cigars, etc., not other stuff)?

I have a cigar on a rare, rare occasion. I dabbled in pipe smoking when I was young, but it was too much work.

I tend to avoid tobacco smoke as much as possible because my sinuses lock up like sing sing around it for some reason, but I have smoked a cigar on occasion and enjoyed it in the past. Also, my roomie in college had a hooka and we would smoke shisha (flavored tobacco) from time to time...if I decided the 48 hours of congestion were worth it.

I love a good cigar and smoke them regularly-but only out doors.

I never smoke indoors (unless my wife is out of town for an extended period and I have time to air out the house). That's one reason I don't smoke cigars. In the winter, I'm looking to get back in the house as quickly as possible.
