no, token recognition at best, but they don't dwell on it. |

I don't know how to answer that. I think there are a large number of veterans who don't particularly want a lot of recognition because they feel they were just doing their jobs, so as a result you don't really hear from veterans that they think they deserve more recognition even if they do. I think we give veterans a lot of recognition in this country, but we could do better. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! no-and when the general population does think about vets they tend to think about WW2-the last "popular" war. Vets from Korea on have been made the villans, with the possible exception of the Gulf One conflict-that one was over soon enough to make even the left happy. _________________

Veterans get a lot of recognition especially during war time. Every time I watch a game on tv, they show a section filled with active soldiers who get to take a break from duty and catch a game.
I also disagree with SSSS's perception of how the "general population" feels. The outlook on veterans has absolutely zero to do with what war they served in. There is nothing to politicize here. However, there is a very small fringe (like anything) that are extreme in their views on war. But they hardly represent the pulse of America's general population. _________________

I agree that that is true now. However, tetriS's view was true during Vietnam, which is unfortunate. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Pretty hard to agree with you Dick when returning soldiers from VN were spit on and called baby killers. _________________

Ok, so a small number retarded protesters acted like giant ***holes. Like I said, "fringe". Is that really the pulse of the American public 30 years later? I understand that the images of protesters spitting and shouting "baby killer" stand out.
There is definitely a generation gap here. I can confidently say that a vast majority of my generation respects all veterans regardless of which war they served, and regardless of their feelings on that specific war. _________________

and I am one of them, I did what I did for four years and have no regrets what so ever.
I never put a flag out on the 4th, or any other day, my time served answers and testifies to my patriotism, and it was merely time. The ones who never came home alive again are the ones I will always salute. |

I was at the airport a couple of weeks ago and people were cheering for all the soldiers that were coming home...Everyone would stop and clap for them. It was really nice & I was happy to see that! _________________ "If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties ... if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal.'" ~ Senator John F.
