The trial for Terrell Yarbrough enters the penalty phase today. Do you think the jury will sentence him to:

Life
Death

Blue pill
Red pill

I don't know the case or the history of Washington county sentencing well enough to wager a guess. Is the death penalty common here?

Many get the death penalty but on one ever gets executed. They die of other causes while in the never ending appeal process. It should be limited to two years for appeals then execute.

agree with george-may as well sentence them to life-if they get the death penalty they will die of old age first. Tippy Wallace got death in I think 1979-he is still in jail.

Nice. I think the death penalty should be made more interesting. Like they give you a revolver with all but one chamber empty and if you luck out, then you get another 5 years to try to appeal before you play again. Kinda adds a "reality TV" aspect to it, which is where we as a society are headed anyway.

Did anybody ever see that episode of the Twilight Zone, the newer one, where the dude is on death row and claims he is innocent but they are going to execute him. The execution fails through some freak occurrence and the guy hears a voice in his head say "not yet." This follows two more times with different methods of execution and also one time where the son of the supposed murder victim tries to shoot him, but the gun jams. He becomes increasingly certain that he is the second coming and has been selected by god to show the world that he is invulnerable. He gets very cocky at the end and accidentally admits to his lawyer that he did in fact commit the murder and then says he feels no remorse for it. He is set free from jail based on overwhelming support from the public who think he is Jesus or something and as he walks out of the court house, the statue of Justice falls off the building and crushes his dumb azz. Everybody lolz. It wasn't a very good episode but this discussion reminded me of it.
