Help me to understand this:

Beck gets millions of listeners, on FOX, a successful news media...

NBC is going bankrupt.....

[quote]Now, here is where I need help......why is NBC going bankrupt, and FOX NEWS CHANNEL is prospering?????

The combination would be complex, if not unwieldy. One scenario, apparently in the talking stages, would involve the formation of a private joint venture, with Comcast owning 51% and the remainder going to GE. The component parts would include Comcast's video, high-speed data, and telephone services, along with a couple dozen cable networks from both companies.

NBC isn't going bankrupt, GE is going to sell of 51% of it though

Cy, I was sitting at the hospital Fridaywaiting for my wife for a brain scan and this guy was waiting too. Fox was on the TV there in the room and I swear to God he was phony. Among other things he said was:

Fox is the only News telling the truth
Bush was the best ever
This country was perfect till the Dems over.
and so on.

He had an arm injury, but maybe someone was ordering a brain scan for him too.

I could have saved them time and money and tell them right now they wouldn't find any brain. Wink

(P.S. How's your wife?)

Lucky for me my daughter works there and managed to get the scan read right then, and the radiologist said if someone hadn't told me this was a 72 year old woman, he would have sworn it was a scan of a 35 year old He said as we age we have shadows etc that show up , but she had almost none, whatever that was all about)( now I have to live with that(joke)), but also said it showed nothing( now its my turn). All was fine.

She is experiencing what I was telling you guys about a few weeks ago I was going through, darn dizziness. For her, nearly 3 weeks and her doc ordered the scan.

I am on Norvac and one of the side effects is severe dizziness, I quit taking all pills and went to Amoxicillan and in a few days it was gone. So a few of you, I hope were right ,when you posted an inner ear infection. Now I resumed my med schedule and see if it returns. So far,so good.

Good luck, BD. What is your wife's secret? Good diet? Crossword puzzles? I'm hoping for aging gracefully but would hate to have my mind go before I do.

I would guess not doing what I do. My scan would look like a coal mine, I guess.

Actually she does a crossword puzzle and has for years, and was a ferocious reader until recently. She also has to have a project going, no matter what, painting some room, drapes, cleaning, always freaking cleaning some dam thing, still irons clothes. she just painted 2 bedrooms this summer, have to pull her teeth to get her to go somewhere on a vacation.

About Mr. Beck being a "tool" or not representing a large
element of American public opinion, I must unfortunately
disagree with my friendly progressive comrades... I listen
regularly, for a variety of reasons....I find his work articulate,
entertaining, and impassioned. Hardly the work of a "tool."
Also, his very existence depends on advertising revenue, and
that is directly proportional to the number and purchasing
power of listeners....His listeners....Debating the merits of
his ideology is an entirely different matter....Whether he is
a lone voice of reason or a power hungry demagogue is still
just a matter of personal opinion....
Regardless of all that, my progressive friends who love freedom
and democracy, must realize that it is not only necessary, but
even mandatory to always have someone questioning the
Emporer's new clothes....Beck is doing a good job at this...
And I'm very proud of his ability to speak his mind..
Only in America, could this happen.

If you are suggesting that Beck is a source of entertainment, I don't disagree. Otherwise, we wouldn't have so much fun bashing him here and on the blog.

If you are suggesting that it is unavoidable that such a voice would exist in the media by virtue of the protection of the freedom of speech, then you imply that we progressives would wish to silence Beck, which I can say at least speaking for my self is not true; I don't care if wackos get TV shows.

When I seriously criticize the Glenn Becks/Rush Limbaughs/Ann Coulters of the world, what I am really criticizing is the willingness of a percentage of the conservative population to so willingly and obliviously parrot the blatantly illogical and borderline insane rantings of these talking heads without so much as a single independent thought. I've heard this referred to as the "Republican Hive Mind."

I don't think Beck is a problem. I think people who believe him for no other reason than that he is Beck are a problem.

Maybe it was freethinker who was at the hospital, after all phony is in SC.

I don't think freethinker is the type to worship fox news. He seems to be above that and quite capable of thinking for himself.

I would only add that my earlier response was to show that a really good audience for a book or a cable show is an insignificant amount of people otherwise...

Limbaugh reaches 30 million a week, which is enough to get him a quarter billion dollar contract... but it's still only 10% of the population

GE will eventually rid itself of this dead horse.....GE does not need a loser piece of chit tv network that screwed itself by playing politics, and siding with the LIBCHIT SICKOS....

Cy when you say he isn't reaching mainstream America, I have one question, who in your opinion is main stream America. He makes me nervous so I don't listen to him, but I know plenty that do. It is really sad that you are dismissing the listeners as being unintelligent. I don't know about conspiracies theories that Beck has been talking about of late, but I do believe he echoes the words of millions of Americans who think and question. BD I am going with your hospital man, Bush was the greatest.
