Carville was reacting to earlier comments Sunday on Fox News, where Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina made it clear that he was not a fan of Beck.
"[H]e doesn't represent the Republican Party," Graham said of Beck, "When a person says he represents conservatism and that the country is better off with Barack Obama than John McCain, that sort of ends the debate for me as to how much more I'm going to listen."
"So he has a right to say what he wants to say. In my view, it's not — it's not the kind of political analysis that I buy into," Graham said.
Republican strategist Mary Matalin disagreed with Graham and with Carville, who is her husband.
"[Beck] has two best-sellers," Matalin told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, "This has never happened before. Two No. 1 best-sellers in hard-cover and paperback, non-fiction. All right. Somebody out there is listening [to] what Glenn Beck says. I know he [Carville] doesn't listen and Lindsey doesn't listen."
"[Beck] doesn't affiliate with either party, or any party," Matalin also observed Sunday, "but he has tapped into this mainstream of America who feels otherwise not listened to."
Before joining Fox News, Beck anchored a show on CNN Headline News, a sister network to CNN.
Carville and Matalin are both CNN political contributors. |
I take issue with this part:
"but he has tapped into this mainstream of America who feels otherwise not listened to."
First, no he hasn't. I know no liberals who listen to him and I know tons of conservatives, including many outspoken conservative speakers and politicians, who distance themselves from him. If he was in the mainstream, sponsors wouldn't be so nonchalant about fleeing from him like rats from a sinking ship and he wouldn't have to make up false numbers for his tea party friends' DC march.
Second, any group that finds a sense of understanding in Beck's words probably deserves to not be listened to.

How many book sales does it take to get to #1?
Let's say that 50% of his audience adores him enough to buy his book... take the number of book sales needed for #1 and multiply that by 2.
Now, divide that number by 300,000,000
Yeah, he's tapped into something, now hasn't he? Are we even at 1% of the population buying his BS?

Ok, last year's best selling album was Lil Wayne's "The Carter III"... selling 2.88 million copies.
Let's say Glenn Beck sells 5 times that many copies of his book... That would be 14.4 million... This would be a RETARDED HIGH number... consider that Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (sequel to the Da Vinci Code) has only sold about 3 million copies so far...
That would be 4.8% of the population buying his book...
That would be about 5 times his television audience... That would be 1.5 times his radio audience... Basically, that would be more people buying his book than actually listen to or watch him (unlikely)...
And even that... 4.8% is one fifth of the percentage of the population that voted for Ross Perot in 1992.
1/5 of Ross Perot. On Glenn Beck's BEST day, he's one fifth of Ross Perot

Some books, especially a polititions, are no doubt bought en mass,by a "a single supporter". |

Beck gets millions of listeners, on FOX, a successful news media...
NBC is going bankrupt.....
