That's not true at all. There are plenty of subjects here I do not comment on because I do not know about them. There are even situations where I post just to say, "I don't know enough about this to share an opinion but it sounds interesting" or something along those lines. I don't think its fair to hold it against me that I like to spend a lot of time reading up on a wide range of political topics and formulating opinions about them. _________________ The end is nigh! I type at over 60 words per minute. Makes it easy to post a lot and spend little time doing so. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Neither am I. But my job and many of my hobbies involve being online. As such, its not a problem to have a tab open to this forum if I feel like chatting. Seriously, I don't spend more than about an hour a day of actual time on here. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Amph-your point is well taken. And the post about the phony surplus was based on news articles I read at the time by economists saying the surplus did not exist. No I do not have links-that was eight-nine years ago. But I pose this question to ponder. If I have a 500 dollar surplus in my written budget, but I owe 5000 in credit card debt, do I really have a surplus????
Also whatever extra money was eaten up by the aftermath of 911, but I guess that is just an "inconvienient truth" | Actually, Clinton's budget surplus only disappears if you evaluate the federal budget on a accrual basis, rather than the cash basis accounting that the Feds have used for years. Using your credit card analogy, you would accurately be considered to have a surplus using cash basis accounting since that reports budget performance on your cash position in the present, but not if you're using accrual basis accounting which reports your cash position based upon some point in the future. (That's a huge oversimplification of the two accounting methods.)
So, using the accounting method that our government has used for decades, Clinton definitely left a sizeable surplus. If we switch accounting methods to one that's not used in evaluating the Federal budget then he didn't. My opinion is that the switch is done by some economic pundits to support partisan views. The catch is that if we're suddenly going to evaluate the Federal budget by accrual method, then that also means GWB left an exponentially larger deficit that is usually recognized. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

People on either side of American partisanship do it all the time, though in my opinion the Right relies on such antics slightly more regularly than the Left does. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

SSSS, we should get you up here for a typing contest against our sports editor, Chris Dugan. The man's one helluva two-finger pecker. _________________

I find it amazing that you'd have a hunt-n-pecker on a newspaper staff!
Not as amazing as how funny it is to see "hunt-n-pecker" in print _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
