Kids are made to sing all kinds of insipid things when they're in school. Yinz got your panties in a wad over nothing.
Frankly i think it was inappropriate to have kids sing even a harmless song like this about any seated political official. There are hundreds of other individuals who could have been celebrated for Black History Month, most of whom these kids have probably never heard. Still, it's hardly indicative of some left-wing conspiracy to indoctrinate children. It looks like just bad judgment on the part of the teacher. Get a grip.
Quote: | Dear Burlington Township Families:
Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or Dr. King, Principal of B. Bernice Young School, directly.
Sincerely,
Dr. Christopher M. Manno |
Lyrics of the song:
Quote: | Chorus: ‘Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama.’
Verse one: ‘He said that all must lend a hand. To make this country strong again.’
Second verse: ‘He said we must be clear today. Equal work means equal pay.’ |
Let's see - we all should pitch in to make our country strong, and equality is important. What nefarious 'messages' to give children. </sarcasm> _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

Quote: | Godwin's Law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies) is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." | When Phony's in the discussion, the probability's at 1 as soon as he logs in. You know, as often as Phony mentions Hitler, he's obviously obsessed with him. Maybe we should start calling Phony "Fraulein Braun." _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

It was indoctrination at its finest. One part of it makes the children look as if they were speaking of God. The teacher I understand has retired and the program was in June which meant no time to complain after. I wouldn't have allowed my son to sing the praises of GW had they been asked. Not right no matter what side your on. NOT RIGHT!!!!! |

Maybe not, but not nearly as big a deal as everyone is trying to make it either. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |

Yeah, when the Hitler Youth sang their praises to HITLER, and the Young Facists sang their praises to Mussolini, it wasn't a big deal....

I think the songs are dumb... and I think that idolizing political figures is a slap in the face to history. The BS about the cherry tree and all that crap causes this idea that we have fallen away from an idyllic place from days gone by. Kids should know that the founding fathers were elitist, hard drinking womanizers who owned and screwed their slaves... that they were regular people... not gods, not some magical saintly idealist version of the crap they sing about in children's songs... but men who had very human flaws who changed the future course of the world...
So you can elect a president that smoked pot or drank or slept around... because it's not like only virginal christians can win wars or pass good policy... I'll take the smartest person in the room over the nicest person in the room any day. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! The video, however, only surfaced a few days prior to the President's 'controversial' speech to schoolchildren earlier this month. _________________ "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr.

So, singing the praises of COMRADE LEADER is fine if it's associated with Black History Month.....a freaking farce in itself. _________________ Exposing the secular humanist liberal "progressives". |

Ellipses,
Your description of our founding fathers is disrespectful and offensive. There is no reason for children to know of those things you mentioned and it isn't relevant to the fact that they created the greatest nation on planet earth. |

Zaa, not according to the LIBCHITS, and COMRADE LEADER, who are continuously apologizing to the world.......FOR OUR WRONG-DOINGS....
LIBCHITS have no love for their country, nor appreciation for those who made the supreme sacrifice in order to preserve our country....

Not to mention TRUE.
And you are right... there isn't any reason to present Thomas Jefferson as a guy who had sex with his slaves to third graders or anything... but at the same time, they absolutely should not be deified, as they all too often are now.
And whether or not our nation is absolutely the greatest on earth kinda depends on how you define "Great"... In many cases, we have been the most successful on a number of fronts... We have also been utter failures in other areas. You should teach children to be proud of your country, but not to overlook or ignore the times when we have been horribly and unforgivably wrong. And as far as America being "the greatest"... Then a logical extension is that other countries are lesser than America... and citizens of other countries are lesser than Americans... and that is not only false, but dangerous.
History is hindsight. Hindsight should always be 20/20, and should never be dressed up or sugarcoated. _________________ The end is nigh! OR forums die APRIL 1. Don't lose contact! Join the forums at bogsource.com now! |
