While driving south and back i watched for so-called stimulus projects, here are a few that are questionable. from the west virginia line south towards summersville wv, 2in of new blacktop over a highway that was not needed for 18 miles,in hamet nc,sidewalks and handicapped ramps between two towns a mile apart with less than 500 residents in each town, entering pa on my way back, signs posted road construction next 5 miles, at the last mile the left lane is closed, the next sign states end of road construction, the problem is there was no work being done...blackballed

Does PennDOT actually do anything? It seems like I see construction zones EVERYWHERE, but I have yet to see someone actually working in one.

We have a good friend who works for Penndot, been there years. When our boys had soccer games he would stand in front of us with his Penndot jacket on and say "You're tax dollars at work.". I told him I wanted his job and he said you have to be able to put in 8hrs without taking a pee. I told him I wasn't qualified then.

Blame the sexism in our culture. He could sneak behind a barrier and whiz on the ground if he wanted, but if you tried to do the same, it would be considered "unladylike." Inequality!

I never could squat in the great outdoors. My husband is a prime example of why one should find facilities when nature calls, he had been playing a softball game an intense urge hit him. He ran of into the woods, did his bear impersonation and alas no Charmin hanging on a tree. He grab some leaves, trotted back on field and finished the game. By the time he got home he was just a tad itchy, he said I made sure the plant had 3 leaves instead of 5. Damn city boy!! Sheer agony as the rash spread from under towards his , well you get the picture.

Yeah, I'll whiz behind a tree, but I'm just smart enough about botany to know that I shouldn't try to figure out what leaves to use when nature calls that way. I'll wait for facilities.

I could hold a crap for a few days if I had to... it's one of my super powers

Peeing, though... I've filled a couple of cups in my day while sitting in traffic on the highway...

About the stimulus at work, I haven't seen them but I've heard there are signs popping up saying this project is being made possible because of the Obama stimulus package. These are in the form of regular Penndot sign at a cost of $2000. a piece. Couldn't we have used that $$ on something other than publicity. I'm afraid that this president is becoming our version of the Queen. A sort leader in name only, just a PR head.

I saw one of those signs between Washpa and Wheeling on 70... I did recall, at the time that I saw it, that those signs aren't 30-cent-a-copy throwaways from Kinkos...

The Senate voted to stop production on thje F-22 fighter jet. 25,000 jobs will be lost as a result.
"According to Lockheed Martin Corp., the main contractor for both planes, 25,000 people are directly employed in building the F-22, and an additional 70,000 have indirect links, particularly in Georgia, Texas and California."

But hey, at least we had money to study why Iowa pig poop stinks!

Not sure how I feel about the way that story is being portrayed. The F-22 never took off (no pun intended) in popularity and now many of the key players are looking into the F-35 as a more viable option to step into the role of military aircraft flagship. The F-35s are pretty badass and pretty versatile. Some of them can do short takeoffs and vertical landings and they are good for both air-to-air and bombing runs. Lockheed and Grunman are both working together on that one and it seems like new jobs will open back up once it goes into production. Its also got the potential to be more lucrative than the F-22 was supposed to be because we have international allies interested in purchasing some. The F-22 is very cool and seemed like an excellent fit to fill the air superiority fighter role left open by the aging F-14s/F-15s but it hasn't really caught on yet. However, now that the F-117's are retired, the military will be eager to see those F-35s in action.

But was there ANY consideration to the jobs factor, or does that only matter if it is in Reid or Murtha's district?

I'm sure there was "consideration," but you and I both know that 90% of politicians regardless of party see people as numbers as opposed to living beings.
